In a recent interview with The New Yorker, New York Mets owner Fred Wilpon blasted his team for their recent performance.
In the interview (view here) Wilpon discussed several players on the Mets roster with author Jeffrey Toobin:
On shortstop Jose Reyes wanting a new multi-year contract: “He thinks he’s going to get Carl Crawford money,” referring to Crawford’s seven-year, $142 million contract with the Boston Red Sox. “He’s had everything wrong with him. He won’t get it.”
On David Wright: “Really good kid. A very good player. Not a superstar.”
On right fielder Carlos Beltran: “We had some schmuck in New York who paid him based on that one series. He’s 65 to 70 percent of what he was.”
On 1st baseman Ike Davis: “Good hitter. (Bleepy) team. Good hitter… We’re snakebitten, baby.”
The Mets are currently 22-24 and in 4th place in the NL East.
