It was a little surprising to hear that the Atlanta Thrashers were on the the block for sale. But the new reports that the Atlanta Hawks are for sale is really surprising.
According to Yahoo! Sports, The Atlanta Spirit, the owners of bother the NHL’s Atlanta Thrashers and the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks are reportedly shopping BOTH teams.
Thankfully, for Atlanta fans, the deal isn’t imminent according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Per the Journal-Constitution:
“The Spirit, in the process of negotiating a deal that would send the hockey team to Winnipeg, also is in talks about a possible separate sale of the basketball Hawks, who would remain in Atlanta.”
Apparently, San Diego Padres owner John Moores is in talks with the Atlanta Spirit to obtain the Hawks and the operating rights to Philips Arena.
Sources are saying that a deal is an eventuality.
