Mark Turgeon assembling popular coaching staff at Maryland

Apparently no one told Mark Turgeon that he was at Maryland, not Duke.

Turgeon, who was hired May 10 as the Maryland head basketball coach, isn’t taking his job lightly. He has apparently inked two very respectable assistants in the country during the past 24 hours.

Turgeon hired Scott Spinelli, a longtime associate head coach at Texas A&M, according to The Washington Post. And now Kansas State is confirming that Turgeon has also persuaded the school’s top assistant, Dalonte Hill, to move eastward.

Spinelli apparently knew the move was coming and was already cleaning out his office when the news that Turgeon’s replacement, Billy Kennedy, was hired.

Hill is another story. He was the man who recruited Michael Beasley to Kansas State and was reportedly making nearly $425,000 per year.

Both join Orlando “Bino” Ranson, who remained on the Maryland staff from last season.

  1. The staff at MD should quickly start landing the type of recruits MD should get. Look for MD to be rolling like they were in the early 2000’s really soon. All MD has to do to field a top 10 team is keep local talent at home. With Hill on the staff, maybe guys like Beasley and Durant won’t go to the Big 12. I can see losing some guys to duke or unc, but to K-State and Texas? That makes no sense. The Terps are about to get it done!
