Following his team’s disappointing Game 5 loss to the Miami Heat, Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers informed the media that he will probably be back to coach the Celtics during the 2011-2012 season.
“I’m leaning heavily towards coming back,” Rivers said Wednesday night during his press conference. “I haven’t made that decision. But I can tell you that I probably will. I’ve kind of come to that over the last couple of weeks. I’m a Celtic and I love our guys.
“I want to win again here. I do,” added Rivers. “And I’m competitive as hell. I have a competitive group, and so we’ll see. But I can tell you that’s where I’m at today. Tomorrow, I may change my mind, but that’s where I’m at today. I don’t believe this team is done.”
There had been speculation that Rivers would step down as the Celtics head coach at the end of the season. Rivers son Austin was recently named High School Player of the Year and is set to attend Duke University in the Fall.
