Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger will undergo back surgery to remove a herniated disc from his spinal cord on Thursday.
This will be Pronger’s fourth surgery in the past 10 months.
The 17-year veteran defenseman battled injuries throughout the 2010-2011 season. He returned to the lineup in Game 6 of the Flyers first round series against the Buffalo Sabres after being sidelined since March 8 due to a broken right hand.
After playing Games 6 and 7 against the Sabres, and Game 1 against the Bruins, Pronger missed the remainder of the series due to a “lower-body injury.”
Pronger played in just 50 regular season games during the 2010-2011 season. It was his lowest total since 2002-03 with St. Louis and third-lowest in his 17-year career.
