Mets’ Chris Young likely out for season

New York Mets starting pitcher Chris Young will likely miss the remainder of the 2011 season after suffering a tear in his pitching shoulder.

Young was diagnosed on Monday with a torn anterior capsule in his right shoulder.

It is similar to the injury that sidelined the University of Princeton graduate for all of just four starts in 2010 as a member of the San Diego Padres.

Young chose to rehab the injury last year instead of having surgery to fix the issue. Either way his 2011 season is likely over.

In four starts with the Mets Young went 1-0 with a 1.88 ERA with 22 strikeouts and 11 walks in 24 innings pitched.
