NFL Draft ratings significantly down

Football fans didn’t just show their frustration with the current labor situation by booing commissioner Roger Goodell at the start of Thursday night’s NFL draft.

They also showed their displeasure by not tuning into the draft at all.

According to Nielsen overnights, ESPN’s coverage of the NFL Draft averaged a 4.4, down 17 percent from the 5.3 it notched during last year’s first round coverage.

NFL Network’s opening round coverage delivered a 0.9 overnight, 10 percent less than a year ago.

A year ago, ESPN set a record with its Thursday night draft coverage, averaging 7.29 million viewers on April 22 from 7:30 p.m.

The 2nd and 3rd rounds of the NFL draft begin Friday night at 6pm EST.
