Kevin Love wins “Most Improved Player”

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love improved this season. A lot. He tallied higher marks on every statistical category – based on average per game – except two.

He had fewer steals and more turnovers per game in 2010-2011. And, technically, he tallied more steals this past season than in 2009-2010.

He also started more than three-times as many games.

Can anyone make a case against him? Apparently, very few. Love was the runaway winner. He tallied 66 of a possible 116 first-place votes and 400 points.

Love averaged 20.2 points and led the NBA with 15.2 rebounds per game this season. His shooting percentage was up a few points and he took twice as many 3pt shots, 211, making nearly half of them, 88.

Perhaps the most telling statistic: This season while playing seven extra minutes per game, Love committed a dozen more fouls – the entire season.

No wonder he also earned his first All-Star appearance.

LaMarcus Aldridge of the Portland Trail Blazers finished second with 157 points.
