Rick Adelman will not be back as the head coach of the Houston Rockets.
The Rockets will not renew the contract for Adelman, who won the only playoff series win in the past 17 years and helped coach the team to a franchise record 22-game winning streak.
The long-time coach was relieved of his duties after the Rockets failed to make the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
Adelman got his start in 1977 when he coached at Chemeketa Community College just outside Salem, Oregon. in 1986, he was hired by the Portland Trail Blazers as an assistant. He took over as head coach for the Trail Blazers at the start of the ’90 season. Since then he’s coached the Golden State Warriors (1995–1997), Sacramento Kings (1999–2006) and, most recently, the Houston Rockets (2007–2011).

The 64-year-old coach went 193-135 in four seasons with the Rockets. His career record is 945-616 and ranks eighth in career victories.
