Flyers’ Chris Pronger OUT for Game 2

Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger will not play in Game 2 of the team’s first round series against the Buffalo Sabres, Tim Pannacio of CSNPhilly.com reports.

Prior to the Flyers’ practice Friday in Voorhees, Pronger again skated but did not shoot because of his injured right hand, which is still recovering from March 15 surgery.

General manager Paul Holmgren said the 36-year-old defenseman was day-to-day and would be a game-time decision, but it appears Pronger will not play until Game 3 on Monday at the earliest.

He has been out of the lineup since March 8th. He was initially injured back on Feb. 24 against the New York Islanders when he was hit by a shot from the Isles’ Ty Wishart.

Pronger was told he would need 3 to 4 weeks before returning to the lineup. He returned to practice just a week after the surgery and was defending teammates and taking hard shots at practice as early as 10 days after the surgery. However he suffered a “minor setback” last week that has delayed his return to the lineup.

The Flyers currently trail the Sabres 1-0 in their best-of-seven series.
