The NCAA is making volleyball easier on the eyes. The Playing Rules Oversight Panel has decided that liberos will wear solid-color jerseys starting in volleyball matches beginning in 2013.
“I think it’s a good decision,” Chelsea Reber, former NCAA volleyball player and current analyst said. “A lot of jerseys are 60-40 where they have blue and white and the white is on top and blue is on the bottom. It can be very difficult to identify the libero.”
The libero is a defensive specialist designated for back-row play.
Another rule change involves identifying points. Starting this fall, officials will signal points by poiting to the team serving the point, then signal the call.
