Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard has been suspended one game without pay by the NBA for picking up his 18th technical foul of the season.
Howard will be forced to sit out of the Magic’s game this Sunday against the Eastern Conference leading Chicago Bulls.
Howard was assessed the technical foul in the 2nd quarter of Wednesday night’s overtime victory over the Charlotte Bobcats after he took too long to shoot a free throw.
The MVP candidate became upset after a referee whistled him for taking more than the allotted 10 seconds to shoot a free throw. It was the third time this season Howard has been whistled for the violation. He then rolled the ball out of bounds and was called for the technical.
NBA rules state that a player receives a one-game suspension without pay when he picks up his 16th technical foul of the regular season and an additional one-game suspension without pay for every two technical fouls after that.
