NFL Lockout Update: Both sides want to mediate, but…

One day after Judge Susan Nelson suggested that the NFLPA and owners resume mediation as she takes her time in ruling on the players request for an injunction, both parties stated they were willing to go back to the bargaining table.

However both sides will only return to the table under their own terms.

On Thursday morning the players association publicly accepted the invitation from Judge Susan Nelson to submit to mediation under the ultimate supervision of the federal court in Minnesota.

In contrast the owners want to resume collective bargaining with George Cohen, director of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service in Washington D.C. Cohen led the mediation process between the two parties back in February and March.

The owners do not want to enter mediation in the federal court system in Minnesota because they are not interested in reaching a settlement in the Tom Brady v. NFL court case.

Additionally, according to Mark Maske of the Washington Post, the players are not interested in returning to mediation with George Cohen because they feel the talks from last month were unproductive.

Until the two sides can check their egos at the door and truly dedicate themselves to getting a deal done no progress will be made without a ruling from the federal court system.
