Three years later. Three years after Barry Bonds was charged with perjury – for lying to a federal grand jury about taking performance-enhancing drugs.
Today, the Barry Bonds perjury trial finally starts.
Bonds’ lawyers and prosecutors start to select the 12 jurors and four alternates – of the 100 prospective jurors that filled out lengthy questionnaires Thursday.
According to the Associated Press, the questionnaires asked people about Bonds, how many baseball games they have attended and dozens of other questions designed to root bias among the jurors.
Those questionnaires will be unsealed this morning.
Bonds has pleaded not guilty to four counts of making false statements and one obstruction count, according to the AP.
The trial is expected to last more than two weeks.
