Boston Celtics center Shaquille O’Neal will remain out of the lineup with a right leg injury. There is currently no timetable for his return.
Just as he was about to return from a right Achilles tendon injury, O’Neal is now suffering from right foot soreness.
“He (O’Neal) worked out with us the other day,” head coach Doc Rivers said. “Some of the pain returned.”
Rivers also spoke with Ed Lacerte, the team’s head trainer.
“Eddie just said don’t expect him anytime soon,” Rivers said.
The Celtics front court depth has taken a major hit over the past month. In addition to O’Neal’s injury, the team traded away center Kendrick Perkins to Oklahoma City and has received almost no contribution from backup center Jermaine O’Neal. Boston currently has a two-and-a-half-game lead over the Chicago Bulls for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
