NFL & NFLPA agree to 7-day CBA Extension

There may be football in 2011 after all.

The NFL and the players association have agreed to a “stop-the-clock” scenario with 7 days of additional negotiations added before the expiration of the current collective bargaining agreement.

After agreeing to a 24-hour extension on Thursday afternoon, the NFLPA informed the league that it would begin the decertification process on Friday unless the league agreed to an extension of the talks.

The two sides will take the weekend to determine strategy, before resuming negotiations on Monday. While reports state that the parties are still far apart on fundamental issues, major progress has been made over the past 48-hours and there is hope that a deal can be reached within the time frame of the 7-day extension.

NFL teams can not make any transactions over the next seven days. The extension is strictly for collective bargaining negotiations.
