Chase Utley out with Patella Tendinitis

Philadelphia Phillies fans will have to continue to wait to see star second baseman Chase Utley take the field this spring.

According to General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr, Utley had an MRI yesterday on his right knee and has patella tendinitis. The second baseman has yet to appear in a game this spring and the team will continue to take it slow with his recovery. The injury will not require a cortisone shot at this time.

Amaro went on to say that he is not overly concerned with the injury and that shutting Utley down now should allow the knee to recover. The team is taking it slow at the beginning of Spring so that the problem does not linger into the regular season.

Utley says he hopes the injury is just a minor blip and that he has experienced this issue in the past. Howeverthe pain in his knee has lasted longer this time.

“At this point, it’s better to be safe than sorry,” said Utley. “It comes and goes but unfortunately it’s not going as fast as I’d like.”
