The [Five]: Breakin records like a 3-year old in a pawn shop

The [Five] has set a new record.

First we hit the 1,000 post in the history of the site. Then a few days ago we hit 50,000 hits (web traffic) this week and today, roughly 20 minutes ago, we hit 100,000 hits for the week. A new record.

Mike Lederer has been working his tail off and managed to break a few stories this week – including a small and not very notarized trade between Denver and New York – and it thrust us into the world of Google.

On Monday night, The [Five]’s servers were overloaded when Lederer broke the story. Nearly 300 people flooded the site in the five seconds after the trade.

But, as they say: “We ain’t seen nuthin’ yet.”

In the next hour 1,500 people searched “Carmelo Anthony” and were directed to The {Five]. Then, Tuesday, Carl Landry was dealt and our friends at Yardbarker decided to give us a friendly nod of approval and added Lederer’s story to their “latest” NBA stories.

Yesterday it was a combination of three things. First, Lederer broke the Derron Williams trade, and then the Kirk Hinrich deal. Finally, Terry Horstman posted his Houston Astros breakdown on his 30 Clubs in 30 Days series..

And all the sudden we were 1,500 visitors deep again.

Today, after Lederer’s been busy again – Baron Davis was dealt and details surfaced about Adam Wainwright’s Tommy John surgery – and we are still hip deep in hits.

So, we reached another Milestone in February, 2011.Who knows what the next one will be…
