The NFL and NFL Players Association have taken a major step toward forming a new Collective Bargaining Agreement.
They’ve agreed to talk. And keep talking.
Citing a league source, ProFootballTalk.com is reporting that the owners and players union have decided to hold seven straight days of negotiations beginning Friday.
The two sides also agreed Thursday to use mediation during negotiations. The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service is an independent U.S. government agency that will oversee talks in Washington beginning Friday.
“Any time that both sides of negotiations can get together, whether through conventional means of bargaining or mediation, to come to an agreement that can benefit all parties, it is a good thing,” NFLPA president Kevin Mawae told The Associated Press in an e-mail.
The two sides will meet on Friday for the first time since negotiations broke down last week. The current Collective Bargaining Agreement expires in two weeks at midnight on March 4th.
