Jerry Sloan is no longer the coach of the Utah Jazz.
Just three days after agreeing to a one-year contract extension, the long-time coach of the Utah Jazz has stepped down and decided to retire from coaching. Sloan got into a lengthy exchange with Jazz General Manager Kevin O’Connor after the team’s loss against the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night.
Sloan had been the longest tenured coach in professional sports. This is his 23rd season as Utah’s head coach. He started with the Jazz as a scout in 1983-84 season and one year later was as assistant under Frank Layden.
Sloan, who turns 69 on March 28, was made head coach on Dec. 9, 1988 and has compiled a 1,220-803 record over his tenure – he is the only the fifth coach in NBA history to record 1,000 wins and the only to do it with the same club. Sloan netted his 1,000th career win against the Dallas Mavericks on December 11, 2006.
He coached one team longer than anyone in NBA history. The 2009–10 season was his 22nd season as coach of the Jazz. But, he never won an NBA Coach of the Year award or an NBA championship.
Well, he didn’t show up to the postgame press conference until an hour after the game last night. No wonder he didn’t make it through today.

It is the end of an era. 23 years, wow! I think the Jazz need a change but forcing the legendary name of this club to resign seems retarded.

I think Mubarak stepped down because Jerry Sloan resigned. All part of the Utah Jazz/Egypt conspiracy everyone always talks about.
