Bradford, Suh win AP Rookies of the Year

The #1 and #2 overall picks in the 2010 NFL draft ended up being the best two rookies in the entire league this season.

St. Louis Rams Quarterback Sam Bradford has been named the Associated Press Offensive Rookie of the Year. Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh won the AP’s defensive honors.

Bradford earned 44 of 50 votes. Only two other rookies received votes: Tampa Bay wide receiver Mike Williams earned four, and Pittsburgh center Maurkice Pouncey had two.

He is the fourth quarterback since 2004 to win the award. Before that, no quarterbacks had won it.

Suh, the only rookie on the All-Pro team, earned 48 of 50. New England Patriots cornerback Devin McCourty drew the other two votes.

Detroit won its final four games to finish 6-10, and Suh was a major reason for the team tripling the number of victories the Lions managed in the previous two seasons combined. He finished the season with 10 sacks, the most at the position, veteran or rookie, and 66 tackles.

Suh is the first Lion to win Rookie of the Year since Al Baker in 1978. He’s also the first non-linebacker to win since Julius Peppers won as a member of the Carolina Panthers in 2002.
