Brewers, Fielder avoid arbitration; Weeks looking multi-year

First baseman Prince Fielder and the Milwaukee Brewers have avoided salary arbitration by agreeing to a $15.5 million, one-year contract. According to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the deal makes Fielder the highest-paid Brewer in team history.

Tuesday is the deadline for teams to avoid arbitration.

Fielder hit .261 with 32 homers and 83 RBIs last season – his lowest output since 2006 and the lowest batting average in his MLB career. He had the fewest hits, doubles, and totals bases of his career in 2010 as well.

The thought around the league, though, is Fielder won’t be in Milwaukee much longer.

Fellow Brewer, Rickie Weeks, is looking for a long-term contract.

Weeks had a career year in 2010, reaching career-high marks in hits, runs, doubles, and RBIs.
