It was a tale of two games. Just eight days ago, St. Johns trailed the Fighting Irish by roughly 20 – at halftime. It was a statement game for Notre Dame. The Red Storm (11-5, 4-2 Big East) lost 76-61 at Notre Dame last Saturday. They shot just 38.2 percent and only hit two 3s.
That was eight days ago.
Sunday afternoon, St. John’s made a statement. The Red Storm’s D.J. Kennedy and Malik Boothe both scored 14 points and St. John’s beat No. 9 Notre Dame 72-54.
The Fighting Irish (14-4, 3-3) committed 20 turnovers and will likely fall out of the Top 10.
For St. John’s it’s the first time the team has beaten two ranked teams in a season since 2005-06 – when they beat Louisville and Pittsburgh.
