Ron Rivera named Carolina Panthers Head Coach

Former San Diego Chargers Defensive Coordinator Ron Rivera has been named the new head coach of the Carolina Panthers.

Rivera and the Panthers have been linked to one another over the past several days and Adam Schefter of ESPN reported first on Tuesday afternoon that it was a done deal.

Rivera becomes the 5th assistant from Andy Reid’s initial coaching staff to receive a head coaching position in the NFL. He joins Brad Childress, John Harbaugh, Steve Spagnolo, and Leslie Frazier. Rams offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur could become the 6th later this month as he is currently the favorite for the Cleveland Browns opening.
