Pac-10 All-Academic honors were distributed and Oregon State softball hit for the cycle. Eight Oregon State softball student-athletes earned honors and tied for the lead the conference, announced by Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and either be a starter or significant contributor.
The awards carry special significance because the Oregon State women spend five of seven days on the road some weeks and have to study on the bus.
“It takes a lot of time management,” senior Cambria Miranda said.
Sophomore Kelly Dyer led the way with first team accolades. The Human Development and Family Sciences major was the lone sophomore named to the 10-member team.
Earning second team honors were Miranda, junior Kellie Roberts and sophomore Katelyn Miller.
“It’s cool,” Miranda said about tallying her second All-Academic nod, earning honorable mention honors in 2007.
Miranda made the jump from honorable mention to second team by focusing on school.
“I’ve worked a lot harder this year and learned how to manage my time,” she said. “I’ll be her next year too, so I’m hoping to graduate with even better grades.”
Rounding out the student-athletes on the All-Academic team were junior Paige Lowe, who earned the same honors in 2007, and sophomores Tarah Black, Dani Chisholm and Alana Ford, who all received honorable mention.
“It took a lot of hard work,” Chisholm said. “I’m proud of it. Proud of our team.”
