Open the gates

Perhaps it’s time to open your eyes. Perhaps it’s time to take a step back.

I think the mirror is too close. And BCS conferences like their own reflection too much. The “Country Club” mentality is beginning to feel as ugly as its members look.

It’s time to open the doors, gentleman.

At the start of the final weekend of games, save the SEC West, college football is pretty scattered. The Big 12 has five teams in the AP Top 25. The Big 10 has three. So does the ACC. Followed by Pac-10 with two and the Big East with one.

The Mountain West and the Western Athletic Conference have two and three teams, respectively, in the AP Top 25. The Mid-American has one.

That’s right, America. The Western Athletic Conference has more teams in the Top 25 than the Pac-10 and Big East and as many as the Big 10 and ACC.

The average ranking for WAC teams in the Top 25 is No. 16.

That’s the same as the ACC. The Big 12 holds an average spot just under No.15.

But, the winner isn’t automatically eligible for a BCS game. The season could end with Boise State, Nevada and – surprise – Hawaii all ranked in the AP Top 25 and tied for first place in the WAC.

I’m not sayin’… Actually, I am sayin’.
