Life’s a Vick

Life isn’t fair.

Just ask MichaelVick.

After he took over for Kevin Kolb in Week 1 against the Packers, he almost led the Eagles  to a comeback win. The next two victories over Detroit and Jacksonville were out of this world, producing 284 and 291 yards passing, respectivly. Heading into Week 4 against a division rival in the Washington Redskins, Vick had a passer rating of over 100 for only the second time in his career.

As a passer, he was being mentioned with the likes of Peyton Manning and Drew Brees.

In his two complete games this season, Vick was stellar. He threw for 799 yards and 6 TDs in his limited time. He became one of the best NFL comeback stories of the season and hopes were sky-high for the Eagles.

Yeah, he was doing it big.

But those high hopes were dashed in the blink of an eye. On a meaningless play, Vick was laid out, writhing in pain. He sustained a rib cartilage injury against the Redskins when he was sandwiched between Dante Hall and Kareem Moore of the Redskins.

Ain’t that a V?

He underwent an MRI early Monday morning and the results showed cracked cartilage near his ribs.

Want to know what isn’t cracked? His pride.

Michael Vick has shown that he’s not only a better football player, but a better man.

It had to be agonizing for Eagles fans to witness, firsthand, the karma of professional sports. They’ve had to stomach the pattern of Kolb-Vick-Kolb. I’m not an Eagles fan, but I do appreciate someone who shows they will overcome any obstacle put in front of them. ANY obstacle.

A fall from grace as the poster boy of the Atlanta Falcons franchise. Been there.

Serve a 23-month prison sentence for dogfighting. Did that.

Learn a new system in Philadelphia and wait patiently behind McNabb and Kolb. That all you got?

Despite everything that Michael Vick has endured over the course of his career, there’s no denying the fact that he is the most dynamic and electrifying player in the NFL today. A guy with his newfound work ethic and charisma won’t be out for long. My only hope is that Vick comes back before Kevin “Corn on the” Kolb earns the starting position.

Then he’d be right back where he started.

Son of a Vick!
