That’s a big jump for Cal, but, I didn’t follow who they were playing this last weekend. It better have been someone good. That and I know Arizona dropped their series but a 10 spot fall?

I don’t know, I’d still put Arizona in the top 10. – Daniel, April 2

Nebraska made a huge jump? Why? I missed who they played this last weekend. That and Vanderbuilt is sucha rickity team this year. What do you think is the reason? – Todd, April 8

In response to both of these comments I must say, because I haven’t stated this since the inception of The Five; 25, this is an average of all the other polls with my own top 25 in that. Because for some reason the NCBWA poll had not come out by the time I did this, that poll is not used in the formula this week.

Daniel, at the point when the Wildcats took that tumble they had lost six straight games. During that six game streak they were shut out twice, lost 10-2 and 20-8. All in all that is not a top 10 team.

As for Nebraska, they have not lost a series since week one of their season. They took two of three from Texas and are fresh off a sweep of Texas Tech. This weekend they meet with conference opponent also in the Top 25, Oklahoma State on the road.

Finally, Vanderbilt is struggling due to the fact they don’t have David Price. Losing that caliber of an arm at the front of your rotation is huge, and shakes up the rest of the rotation. They were beat in a series by a tough Mississippi last week, and are struggling with the injury to stud third baseman Pedro Alvarez. Alvarez may or may not be back, I haven’t checked up on that, but with out his bat that is a BIG gap in that lineup.

Kunda was designated to the minors (moved) but they haven’t found a team for him yet. At least that’s what I heard.

That’s why you can’t find him anywhere. – Todd, April 8

  • Kunda made his debut with the Tampa Yankees yesterday. The former Beaver hit leadoff for the Yankees.
