Athletes can often find interesting ways to miss a game. From slipping down stairs to cutting themselves on the television. This time, St. Louis Cardinals slugger Matt Holliday found the most interesting way to get himself out of the line-up.
A moth.
With two outs in the top of the eighth inning Monday night, Holliday left the field holding the side of his head. Apparently, a moth got stuck deep in Holliday’s right ear. So deep that the team;s trainers couldn’t even coax it out with a lamp.
Team spokesman Brian Bartow told reporters after the game that Holliday was taken into a dark room, trainers put a light by his ear and attempted to lure the moth It was unsuccessful. eventually they opted to use a “utensil” to get the moth out.
The moth survived all of this, for the record. PETA can rest easy..
Holliday was not available for comment after a 2-1 loss but appeared to be OK, Bartow said.
Holliday was replaced in left field by Corey Patterson.
