Floyd Mayweather Jr. facing lawsuit for shooting incident

Superstar boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. may be undefeated in the ring, but he’ll be fighting a different opponent soon. Mayweather is facing a civil lawsuit in Las Vegas brought to him by two men who accuse him of orchestrating a shooting at a skating rink.

The two men, Quincey Williams and Damien Bland are seeking money for damages. Their lawyers were unavailable for comment.

The lawsuit, obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press, also accuses Mayweather, Ocie Harris – who is accused of firing shots at the plaintiffs – and others of making threats since the attack.

According to The Associated Press the lawyers for Mayweather and Harris could not be contacted.

Harris has pleaded not guilty to criminal charges in the shooting in a trial set for February. Mayweather (41-0) is currently training for a Sept. 17 fight against Victor Ortiz.

The original incident, according to police, involved Mayweather arguing with Williams on the night of the shooting. Police say a text message from Williams to Mayweather sparked the dispute. Williams, according to police, sent a text saying he hoped the boxer would lose his comeback fight.

Mayweather eventually won the fight mentioned. He beat Juan Manuel Marquez by unanimous decision.

Authorities have never accused Mayweather. Witnesses told police they saw Harris fire at least five shots at a BMW sedan with the two men inside. Neither man in the vehicle was wounded.
