WTT: Philadelphia Freedoms at Washington Kastles – Update No.1

Okay, So I’m a little late in the game, I know. But it’s hot out here. Real hot. The temperature is still hovering around 90 degrees and the action on the court is even hotter.

For Kastles’ Rennae Stubbs, at least.

Stubbs opened up the night with a mixed doubles and women’s doubles games to remember. Helped the Kastles open up a 10-3 lead.

Now in men’s doubles, Kastles men, Leandor Paes and Bobby Reynolds, are continuing to roll. The men are up on Philadelphia 1-0 early in the game.

But it’s not easy and breezy. The heat is definitely a factor.

Even in the “nose bleed” section (which is still ridiculously close to the action) it’s apparent that the heat is plying a role in tonight’s games. The initial shots are still as hard but the follow up shots are missing a bit a juice. Lateral movement is slower and players are missing balls by that fraction of a step.

It will be interesting to see what happens as the evening cools off. Perhaps the players will be revitalized as temperatures drop into the upper 80s.
