Now, I remember the last time a high school baseball team set a Most-Wins-In-A-Row record.
Okay, it was earlier this year. But I also recall the time before that, I think it was 2005 and it was a team in New Mexico.
This time it’s a team in Iowa. Martensdale-St Marys High, a small school from rural Iowa, won it’s 84th game in a row – breaking the national record. And they did so in dramatic fashion. The Blue Devils (41-0) beat Twin Cedars-Bussey High 10-0 in six innings Tuesday night.
The 84th game in a row beats a Portsmouth high school’s 83-game streak earlier this year. Of course, the Portsmouth school will have an opportunity to extend their streak at the beginning of next season.
The Blue Devils’ win also clinched a trip to next week’s state tournament. Martensdale-St. Marys finished 43-0 and won the state crown a year ago.
