The Justice Department may have forgotten what a jury of your peers means. Roger Clemens is set to go to trial today in front of a female-dominated jury. That’s right, 10 women, two men.
They will decide if the evidence is strong enough to pin Roger Clemens with perjury. Opening arguments start Wednesday morning.
Remember that prosecutors in the case say Clemens lied under oath when he stepped in front of congress three years ago and denied using steroids. Clemens, and his defense attorneys, deny drug use during Clemens’ 24-season career.
The Associated Press writers Nedra Pickler and Mark Sherman summed up this case best. They wrote: “Clemens’ attorney said he will begin by questioning if the House of Representatives’ investigation into whether he used drugs was a proper legislative inquiry. They argue it was not since it didn’t concern any legislation and aired a personal dispute between the baseball star and the trainer who accused him.”
