The Indiana Pacers are attempting to court former Lakers assistant Brian Shaw according to multiple reports – including Shaw’s agent.
Recall Shaw was the assistant to Phil Jackson in LA before Jackson retired.
The Pacers spoke with Shaw and sources have indicated talks pertain to an assistant position – not a head coaching position. Pacers President, Larry Bird, has repeatedly said that interim coach Frank Vogel is the frontrunner for the head coaching position. He did say Tuesday that adding a “top assistant” would help Vogel.
Shaw’s agent, Jerome Stanley, confirmed to reporters that Shaw and the Pacers had been in communication but would not elaborate on the discussions.
The Pacers expect to hire a head coach within the next two weeks.
