Eleven South Carolina players were selected in the MLB Draft this past week. That means nearly one-third of the club is now – at one place in their mind, at least – thinking about playing in the Bigs.
Looking forward, the defending national champions are set to take on Connecticut in the NCAA Super Regional this weekend.

Or not. Gamecocks coach, Ray Tanner, in his 15th season with the school, isn’t worried about relief pitcher John Taylor, closer Matt Price, second baseman Scott Wingo and starting pitcher Michael Roth – all taken in the draft.
If you ask the coaching staff for the Gamecocks, they’ll tell you they’ve already handled that problem. The coaches told players that playing in front of a national audience in Omaha, Neb. is far more exciting than playing for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers or Syracuse Sky Chiefs.
