FIFA approves two new goal-line technologies

Well, for the first time in my life, I think I am ready to say it: Soccer is better and smarter than baseball.

And people, it’s the truth.

FIFA approved two tests on two goal-line technology systems to monitor/determine if goals are truly goals. In fact, the approval is ahead of schedule and could mean implementation might arrive in time for the 2014 World Cup.

Meanwhile, the MLB is still stuck in 1960.

The Associated Press reported Saturday that: “The International Football Association Board on Saturday assessed the test results from eight systems that could be used to help rule on disputed goals, but only Hawk-Eye and Goal Ref received “very positive” scores..”

Those two tests will advance to the next phase of testing which means FIFA – and oft-shrouded-in-controvery President Sepp Blatter might deliver one to the chin of the MLB.

Perhaps, though, the MLB is just waiting for their own “ghost goal” scenario. Or “ghost homerun” in the case of the MLB.

Recall that Blatter, who once opposed technology on teh so0ccer field, ended his long-standing opposition after Frank Lampard’s “ghost goal” against Germany at the 2010 World Cup.
