Even though Peter Sagan won the fourth stage of Tirreno-Adriatico in Italy, Chris Horner, of the United States, took the overall lead race Saturday.
Horner, 40, holds a seven-second lead over Roman Kreuziger of the Czech Republic, with Cameron Meyer of Australian third. Sagan is in fourth with Danilo di Luca in fifth.
Sagan, of Slovakia, is only 22 and finished the 156-mile leg in just 7 hours, 24 minutes, 50 seconds. The leg was from Amelia to Chieti and featured a short but steep uphill finish – including the final 200 meters when Sagan pressed and made his move.
Kreuziger crossed second and Sagan’s Liquigas teammate Vincenzo Nibali was third. Danilo Di Luca, the 2007 Giro d’Italia champion, finished fourth.
Horner, who rides for the RadioShack-Nissan team, was fifth.
