Pittsburgh will join the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Coastal Division in football, the league announced on Friday.
That means Pitt would be in the same division as Virginia Tech, Virginia, Georgia, Miami, Duke and North Carolina.
Again, for football.
Pitt would also played Syracuse every year, even thought the Orange will be in the Atlantic Division.
A timetable for the move is still in the works. Pitt Athletic Director Steve Pederson says he’d like to make the move for 2012 but is currently watching West Virginia to see if that would be possible.
Recall, West Virginia is currently suing the Big East for the right to leave the conference without the standard 27-month notice. The Mountaineers want to play in the Big 12 next fall.
