Minnesota Twins retain Matt Capps

Minnesota Twins reliever Matt Capps wasn’t expecting to return to the Twin Cities. The 6-foot-2, 245-pound closer didn’t think it would be his decision.

After finishing 2011 with a 4-7 record and a 4.25 ERA, most pitchers would be run out of town, not asked to return. But the 28-year-old righty was asked to return to Minnesota on Monday. General Manager Terry Ryan decided to keep Capps as the closer after Joe Nathan left for the Texas Rangers.

Capps told reporters that he was happy the team showed faith in his abilities. He is now out to prove that 2011 was a fluke.

In his seven MLB seasons, Capps is 28-29 with 124 saves with a 3.51 ERA.
