Originally it was a plan that made complete sense. At least to everyone who owned a map. The NHL planned to realign the divisions to save teams from too many cross-country trips while giving fans rivalries that felt more localized.
Again, to people with maps, this all made sense.
The NHL Players’ Association must be atlas-less. And to fans, they are most certainly also clueless.
The Players’ refused to agree to the changes Friday even though the move was deemed OK by the NHL Board of Governors. The decision also effects next years playoff format.
The league said Friday that it will maintain its current alignment and playoff format next season.
