Chicago Bears will not retain Mike Martz

The “evil genius” (not named DJ Green Lantern) Mike Martz will no longer be in charge of turning around the Chicago Bears offense. And let’s be honest, if Mike Martz can’t do it – no one can.

Martz was “let go” after only two seasons in Chicago. He was no longer under contract and the team chose not to renew their lease on his skills. Of course, he wasn’t the only person taking a fall for the teams poor performance this season, general manager Jerry Angelo was also fired.

The Bears finished 8-8 but it looked, felt and sounded a lot worse than a .500 record. Of course, the Bears were missing some key components. Starting quarterback, Jay Cutler, starting running back, Matt Forte and defensive captain Brian Urlacher all sustained injuries this season.

Cutler and Forte were lost for the season.

Chicago started the season a very dangerous 7-3. But fell apart down the stretch, losing five games in a row.

Quarterbacks coach Shane Day will not be back, either.
