Former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz has retired from coaching.
This according to Jason La Canfora of NFL Network.
Martz was the evil genius behind the Greatest Show on Turf with the Rams in the early 2000s. He rose to fame in 1999, after he was hired as the offensive coordinator of the St. Louis Rams by head coach Dick Vermeil. The team went on to win Super Bowl XXXIV that season.
He was hired as the head coach the following season after – then head coach – Vermeil retired. He stayed as the head coach through 2005. He finished with a 53-32 overall record as a head coach.
He spent five of the next six seasons as an offensive coordinator with the Lions (2006-07), 49ers (2008) and Bears (2010-11).
