Auburn grants release for Mike Dyer

Setting a rushing record at Auburn is a lot like setting a passing record at Hawaii. It ain’t easy.

But this past season Auburn running back Mike Dyer was the first Auburn back to rush for 1,000 yards in his first two seasons with the team. He was – obviously – selected to the All-SEC team, too.

But, after being suspended indefinitely by coach Gene Chizik, he has asked for a release to transfer schools – and the school is granting his request.

A person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press that Auburn has released Dyer from his scholarship. The release was first reported by AuburnUndercover.com.

Chizik suspended Dyer before the Chick-fil-A Bowl for violating unspecified team rules.

Recall that Dyer was the offensive MVP of the National Championship game last season. As a freshman, he ran for 1,242 yards and 10 touchdowns.
