Reports and tweets are pouring in this morning that Tyson Chandler will become a New York Knick. Possibly as soon as today when the NBA reopens for business officially at 2pm.
Chandler’s tough defense and gritty inside game helped lead Dallas to an NBA title last year.
The move wold mean a couple key things for NY.
1. Chauncey Billups career in NY is done, the Knicks would likely amnesty Billups, putting him on waivers. They would also have to unload Ronny Turiaf. This is all for cap space to sign Chandler. The latest reports speculate a Chandler contract in NY would be somewhere in the ballpark of 4 years, $58 million
2. Chandler’s deal locks the Knicks up for moves. So any hope Knicks fans had to still get Chris Paul, after the NBA shut down the deal with the Lakers and Hornets last night, is gone. The Knicks will be over the cap for years to come.
