The President of the NCAA, Mark Emmert released a statement in response to the Xavier – Cincinnati brawl.

The incident at the end of the Xavier/Cincinnati basketball game today is deplorable and such behavior has no place in college sports. The respective conferences and both schools are in the process of determining what disciplinary actions should be taken against those involved. However, such behavior impacts the game as a whole far beyond those involved. Sportsmanship is a key tenet at the NCAA and a principle that all involved in intercollegiate athletics are expected to honor. Those involved with that incident today failed to honor themselves, their schools, and college basketball. It cannot be tolerated.
The brawl happened during the final seconds of the annual rivalry game. The game ended prematurely and left at least one player bleeding.
So, Emmert says it “cannot be tolerated.”. But, Mark, WILL it be tolerated? That’s the question. What will the conference commissioners do to these thugs, and if they don’t do the right thing, what will the NCAA do?
Frankly, if the NCAA really believes their platitudes about student athletes and character and the rest of the NCAA drivel, they should ban these kids from collegiate athletics. Period. Div-1 BB is nothing but a holding pen for a bunch of street hoods who are waiting to go to the pros where they can become professional thugs making millions a year.
Student athletes? I think not.
