With Penn State on the prowl for a new coach, rumors are starting to get legs. But Mississippi State coach, Dan Mullen, tried to squash at least one rumor Friday. He issued a statement through the university insisting he hasn’t been approached by Penn State about its coaching vacancy.
The third-year coach, not beating around the bush, said: “Neither I, my agent nor the administration at Mississippi State University have been contacted.”
Rumors will most likely continue to circulate, though, as fans will point to Urban Meyer as an example of denial until acceptance.
Mullen was Meyer’s offensive coordinator at Florida.
Mullen’s statement also said he is “happy” with his job at Mississippi State. He has posted a 20-17 record – including 6-6 this season – and led the Bulldogs to their second ever bowl game last season.
