Billups won’t take his talents to Miami

Alright Miami Heat fans, relax. It ain’t “finna get real” quite yet.

While the New York Knicks did waive Chauncey Billups using amnesty, Billups and the heat would have to jump through a few hoops in order to get the five-time All-Star to Miami.

There is a great breakdown of the Amnesty Rule on ESPN.

And while I hate to link to The Mothership, the Four-Letter Network or whatever else they are called in your circle of friends, I can’t help it. It’s broken down there better than I can explain it here.

The deal though is this: The chances that Billups – or any other amnesty player for that matter – make it to Miami, L.A. or any other team at or slightly below the salary cap is almost non-existent.

1. Amnesty Players must clear two waiver processes before eligible to be free agents. Meaning, they must clear both the regular waiver and the new secondary waiver.

2. Teams must have cap room in order to bid for an Amnesty Player. So if your team is over the cap, you are out of the bidding.

3. The Heat fall under both No. 1 AND No. 2. They are at the salary cap and they aren;t in line for the first two waiver processes.

So take a breath Heat fans. Besides how many more All-Stars do you need in South Beach. There is only so much of the rock to go around. You are already teetering on the brink of not making people happy with not enough ball to go around.
