NBA Owners and players have reached a tentative agreement to end the lockout that has plagued the first few months of the 2011-2012 season.
NBA Commissioner David Stern said the two sides reached a tentative understanding and that it is: “subject to a variety of approvals and very complex machinations.”
Continuing to say: “We’re optimistic that will all come to pass and that the NBA season will begin Dec. 25.”
If the deal is indeed ratified — which seems to be a given — the NBA season would begin a 66-game campaign on Christmas day with a triple-header. The first game of which will feature the New York Knicks and the Boston Celtics.
Free agency will begin on December 9th if the deal is ratified. Both owners and players are keeping their mouths shut so far about the details of the new CBA, but both sides conceded that sacrifices were made by all to get the deal done.
A majority on each side is needed. That means 15 of 29 owners and a simple majority of the 430-member players union.
More to come as the information rolls in.
