Philadelphia Eagles release CB Joselio Hanson, open door for Brandon Hughes?

Mike Lederer is reporting the Philadelphia Eagles have released veteran cornerback Joselio Hanson. Lederer is citing FoxSports.com’s Adam Caplan, who was the first to report Hanson’s release.

According to Lederer’s report for philaphans.com:

It had been widely reported throughout the week that the Eagles would trade Hanson before Saturday’s final cuts were due at 6 p.m. EST. Ultimately the team was unable to trade Hanson and decided to release the veteran cornerback.

The emergence of younger corners Brandon Hughes, Curtis Marsh, and Trevard Lindley made Hanson expendable.

The 7-year veteran was set to make $2.4 million this season. With large money tied up in Asante Samuel and the newly acquired Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Hanson’s cap hit made him expendable.

In five seasons with the Eagles Hanson appeared in 75 games and recorded 165 tackles and 4 interceptions. He is considered by some to be one of the top slot cornerbacks in the league.

A quick editorial note, I hope the best for fellow Beaver and friend, Brandon Hughes. Lederer informed me via Twitter, “He hasn’t officially made the team but I know the coaching staff likes him. He has a legitimate shot.”
