The Carolina Panthers have named number one overall pick Cam Newton their starting quarterback for the 2011 season.
First-year head coach Ron Rivera made it official after the Pathers 33-17 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night.
Newton played just one series in Carolina’s final preseason game going 3-5 for 25 yards and a touchdown pass to tight end Jeremy Shockey.
